History

AMEZ Housing CDC was founded in 1993 by the leadership of four inner-city A.M.E.Zion Church congregations, namely; St Luck, Warner Temple, Price Cathedral, and St. Andrew. The founders saw the need for affordable housing in the city of Wilmington and proceeded to address the issue. Since then, we have continued to strive toward being a viable and helpful entity in our community. AMEZ helps low to moderate income people through human development programs and home-ownership opporunities.

The first house was completed and sold October 17, 1996, since that time 28 new or rehabilitated houses have become homes to first time homebuyers. The homebuyers participated in the homeownership education programs and have remained in their homes without default. AMEZ homeownership programs include pre and post homebuyer education, repairing credit, budgeting, foreclosure and loss mitigation. These programs have helped hundreds of people in the community to either achieve the American Dream of Homeownership or helped others who face challenging situations involving retention of their homes.
